Breaking News: Jessye Norman Concert
July 31, 2009

Jessye Norman and four wonderfully talented friends from New York will present a benefit concert for the Jessye Norman School of the Arts on July 31, 2009 at St. Paul’s Church on Reynolds Street in Augusta, Georgia. The special concert will feature Damien Sneed, pianist and conductor with Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, De’Adre Aziza, Broadway star of “Passing Strange”, Mark Markham, who accompanies Jessye on the piano all over the world, and Wycliffe Gordon, trombonist with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Champagne and Dessert Reception in the River Room with the opportunity to meet Jessye and friends!

The Director is responsible for the operations of the school, including supervision of teaching faculty, and staff. The successful candidate will have the passion and the vision to move the program forward. S/he will have demonstrated leadership skills, experience in the arts, and superior communication skills. Above all, the successful candidate must enjoy working with students, and have proven success working with students in a leadership role. BA/BS/BFA required. Candidates must submit resume/CV, to be received no later than June 30, 2007, to the Rachel Longstreet Foundation, 4344 Miller Drive, Evans, GA 30809.

The Mission of The Jessye Norman School of the Arts is to provide talented and interested youth, who may be economically disadvantaged, with a broad-ranged, professional-quality Fine Arts education. It is the goal of the School of the Arts to nurture and develop young citizens to respect and appreciate art in its myriad forms and to recognize the role and value of the arts in society.

The Jessye Norman School of the Arts was founded by the Rachel Longstreet Foundation as part of its mission to enhance the educational, physical, and cultural development of the children of the greater Augusta area by providing quality arts, preschool, and recreational opportunities, particularly for those children who are economically or physically challenged.

The Jessye Norman School of the Arts is an after-school program designed to develop and nurture the artistic and creative talents of students. The School of the Arts serves the cultural and educational needs of these traditionally under-served youth by providing:
free fine arts instruction, academic tutoring, an opportunity for advanced study in dance, drama, music, and art exposure to professionals working within the arts fields, information on possible careers in the arts knowledge of technical aspects of presentation and performance.
