Arts school receives $25,000

The Rachel Longstreet Foundation is off to a great start in its capital campaign for the Jessye Norman School of the Arts.
On Sunday, the family of Jamesetta Liddell Jones presented the school with a $25,000 gift. A music room will be named after Mrs. Jones, said Dr. Samuel Sullivan, the foundation’s president. “This is the first substantial gift we’ve received,” he said. “That family has stepped up and answered our call. We hope it will represent a springboard for our campaign.” According to the school’s website, its mission is to “provide talented and interested youth, who may be economically disadvantaged, with a broad-ranged, professional-quality fine arts education. It is the goal of the School of the Arts to nurture and develop young citizens to respect and appreciate art in its myriad forms and to recognize the role and value of the arts in society...” Read More
